Kandingei troubles

Letters

KANDINGEI Primary School is located in the Gawi local level government, Wosera Gawi, East Sepik.
The school is financed through TFF.
There are no new toilets for the teachers. The ones currently used was built in 2010.
Teacher’s houses have not been maintained.
During the wet season when strong winds blow the houses swing from side to side.
Most times, for the family’s safety, they leave their houses and gather at a central point.
No water tanks are installed and teachers use Kamangawi Lake for drinking, washing, bathing and other purposes. Twice, a meeting of parents and carers were organised to discuss these problems but they did not turn up.
The grade 7 and 8 students drank homebrew during the term one holiday, entered the head teacher’s house and tried to rape his daughter.
The drunk students confronted the ward councillor and fought with him.
The students are not paying attention in class.
When the teachers take disciplinary measures, the students react.
Just this month, the school management team suspended some students for unruly behaviour and the parents retaliated.
The suspended students returned to school and the women teachers were so afraid they fled their homes.
The Kandingei community has not followed the instructions given by their leaders.
It’s very hard to manage these people.
