THE newly-formed Kanges Volleyball Association started its pre-season competition on a high note at the weekend at the Queen Elizabeth Park in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands province.
The competition attracted 18 teams in the women’s division and 10 in the men’s.
Match chairman Peter Thomas said yesterday that the first three weeks they would play under a new format called the volleyball 4s challenge.
Thomas said after the 4s challenge they would go into normal season.
He said the event had already attracted teams from the surrounding villages and urged more teams from outside of the city to compete in the event.
He said volleyball in the city and province was gradually dying out and the new association was trying to revive the code.
It will cost K30 to register a team and registration will close on Saturday.
So far, four teams in the women’s division have paid up their fees. They are Siroxs, Spiders, Daico and Kunai Sisters.
