Public Service Minister Elias Kapavore, pictured, says the new provincial administrator for Milne Bay is expected to be appointed next month.
He said yesterday that Michael Kape was the acting provincial administrator “while we are still finalising all the applicants who had applied for this position that had been advertised in the media”.
“The shortlisting of the applicants is now in progress,” Kapavore said.
“The governor and the provincial executive council will be given the final five candidates in the next two weeks.
“That will be followed by the National Executive Council’s decision. A substantive appointment is expected to be made in February”.
Meanwhile, Kapavore said the NEC planned to appoint the secretaries of nine departments and two provincial administrations this year.
The departments (with those currently in acting secretary positions in brackets) are Petroleum (Kepsy Puiye), Energy (Paulias Koni), Higher Education Research Science and Technology (Fr Jan Czuba), Agriculture and Livestock (Francis Daink), Defence (Trevor Meauri), Personnel Management (Taias Sansan), National Planning and Monitoring (Koney Samuel), Implementation and Rural Development (Aihi Vaki), and Labour and Industrial Relations (Mary Morola).
