THE Kapi Foundation Inc held its first outreach for the year at the Tete Settlement in Gerehu suburb last Friday.

It was the second visit to the settlement by the foundation.

Community leader John Bak, who has a minor deformity on one of his hands, said the visit marked a special day for people with disabilities in the community.

“I have not seen any able-bodied people come in here yet and recognise disabled people in this community,” he said.

“It takes a person with disability to think this way and carry out such a programme.”

Bak said Tete had been affected by criminal activities but just recently the people had been trying to change that.

The foundation helps the people by promoting spiritual development in the community.

Brown Kapi, the founder of the foundation, told Tete settlers that disabled people should be accorded the same recognition and respect as anyone else at gatherings.

“The Government has no plans for these people. This is why I am here,” he said.

“Disability was here before,it is here now and it will always be here.

“The Government needs to start recognising these special people.”

The disabled people at Tete received household items and four bales of clothing as part of the outreach programme by the foundation to reach disable people in communities.
