Kapi Natto highlights importance of having a vision

PAPUA New Guinea Football Association president John Kapi Natto says a vision is crucial to achieving greater things as the governing body braces for “interesting times” ahead in the sport.
He said that during the launching of the National Soccer League in Port Moresby last month.
“We have managed to fix PNG football which has been one of our many tasks since taking office three years ago,” Kapi Natto said. “We believe in creating pathways for our young people and that is why the association is embarking on a Youth League to be kicked off in October, running parallel with the Women’s National Soccer League.
“If we have a vision and dream, we can do it under my leadership.”
The association is bidding to host the Women’s Oceania Nations Cup early next year as many countries would not travel to Fiji or New Zealand due to the closing of borders in the region.
“We are trying to bring in 10 countries to determine a winner to qualify for the next stage of the women’s World Cup qualifiers,” Kapi Natto said.
“It will be a major boost for women’s football and we hope it becomes a reality.”
He said when he took office, he asked the Oceania Football Confederation president what his vision was for young footballers in the Pacific.
“If you and I have no vision for them then I am wasting my time. We have fixed the association and have set the road map,” he said.
“You and I must now set the roadmap for our future generations and that is to come up with a regional professional league.”

  • That is the way forward. It is for long we didn’t see a future for the soccer in our country obviously because PNGFA didn’t have a vision to develop the sport. This has been far too long. Its about time.
