Kapili wants whistleblowers to provide evidence

LABOUR and Industrial Relations Minister Tomait Kapili wants whistleblowers to provide evidence when exposing graft in Government departments.
“It’s not good just providing reports without evidence to tarnish a department,” he said.
“Whistleblowers are protected under the Whistleblowers Act and should not be afraid to expose graft.
“I also support the Act.”
Kapili said on Friday that he was not avoiding allegations of graft in his department raised by Unggai-Bena MP Benny Allen.
“I will respond in writing in due course as he had also received a letter from Allen,” he said.
“I was not hiding when Allen raised the allegations in Parliament on Aug 20. I just stepped out of the chamber and was rushing in when Allen raised those allegations.
“I wanted to respond but then, Prime Minister James Marape was ready to respond to Allen’s concerns.”
Allen had told the Parliament on Friday that Kapili was evading his concern.
“When I raised the concern on Aug 20, he was not in chamber and so Marape had to intervene,” he said.
“I also wrote a letter to him (Kapili) and he has yet to respond.”
Allen, who had documents from a whistleblower in the department, said on Aug 20 that there were instances of transferring of powers to two other departments.
