MAJOR sponsor of the Simbu Warriors, Kongo Coffee Ltd, has withdrawn its sponsorship for this year, a decision that has all but condemned the Warriors’ future in the 2012 Digicel Cup competition.
The decision was taken in light of the burden entrusted upon Warriors chairman Jerry Kapka after the withdrawl of the Chimbu provincial government as a partner sponsor.
Kapka said he hoped the franchise would continue with another sponsor as the groundwork had been laid over the last two years.
“ I’m proud of the team’s achievement in the last two years and I’m proud that I have made my contributions to rugby league in the province.
“I have set a very good and strong platform for the Warriors to go forward and would like to see the team continue on the path,” Kapka said in an email.
Kapka had led the revival of the Warriors after a three-year absence (2007-09).
However this year due to his work commitments as well as the absence of support from business houses and and the provincial government he was forced to pull Kongo Coffee’s sponsorship for the Warriors.
“ It was a tough decision but in consultation with my family, associates and friends we have decided to pull out the sponsorship,” Kapka said.
