THE death of a police prosecutor and a Correctional Services (CS) officer within 24 hours have forced the postponement of suspected mastermind bank robber William Nanua Kapris’ escape from lawful custody hearing in the Boroko district court yesterday.
Central and committal courts police prosecutor Ili Iki, from Enga province, collapsed yesterday.
He was rushed to the Gerehu St John Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
A CS officer also died of stroke.
The police prosecution and CS informed the media that the postponement was due to the untimely deaths.
The presiding magistrate for the high profile case was also not present at the court house.
Kapris’ last appearance in court on March 19 saw him being convicted and sentenced for being in possession of an unregistered firearm.
He was fined K1,000 and jailed four months, cumulative of his previous sentences.
Yesterday’s appearance would have been on the charge of escaping from lawful custody on Jan 12, where Kapris and 11 other high profile prisoners walked out of the Bomana maximum security institute.
The case has been adjourned to April 15.
