Kapuls face uphill battle
By HENRY MORABANG
Papua New Guinea will have to lift their performance against reigning champions Tahiti in day four of the OFC Nations Cup at Sir John Guise stadium this afternoon.
Kapuls coach Flemming Serritslev told The National that the match was crucial and would be a great test for his charges.
He said the players had proven that they can play football at this level before conceding a goal in the dying minutes of their first game to New Caledonia for 1-1 draw.
“If they can repeat that performance, I don’t see any reason why my boys cannot walk away with the victory.
“They have to believe in themselves,” he said.
While Serritslev admits losing Tommy Semmy for the second game is a set-back, he insists his side has enough depth to cover.
“He is one of the most dangerous strikers in the tournament and we will miss him.
“However, it is now an opportunity for some other players to show that they can step up.”
A win for Tahiti would all but secure them a spot in the semi-finals but there is no complacency from Ludovic Graugnard when it comes to taking on a strong side on their own turf.
The French Polynesians produced an impressive attacking display in the first half of their opening match against Samoa, however they were wasteful in front of goal in the second half.
