Karanas claim minor title in Tabubil

Briefs, Sports

KARANAS have consolidated their minor premiership title following two big wins over the weekend in Star Mountains men’s softball competition.
The continued winning spree started on their first double-header encounter last Saturday after thrashing a luckless Mixmates 20-0 and further cemented their premiership hunt with another trouncing of Magix on Sunday with a big margin of 21-2.
Again, pitcher/catcher combination of Selwyn Kidoro and Edward Egan should be commended for causing havoc for their opposing batters, especially playing against two bottom-rated teams in the competition.
While the spirit in the camp had been high after demolishing Mixmates, the previous day, the New Irelanders continued their batting prowess with yet another impressive victory.
Magix won the toss and sent Karanas to bat to the delight of the competition leaders wasting no time in registering six runs through Ferdinand Nongkas, Sisiki Kusunan, veteran Robin Belik, Egan, Danny Kaplimut and Chamilou Cholai.
Cholai’s homer, clearing the boundary had a big say in offloading the bases for a comfortable lead.
Magix were denied runs at their first turn at bat, thanks to hurler Kidoro having a field day with his deliveries.
