The PNG Karate-do Federation (PNGKF) has commenced a hectic four months leading to the end of April 2014 with the squad training which commenced two weeks ago.

The bulk of the squad in NCD and Central province commenced squad training on January 21, 2014 while athletes from other centres have been given training programs to prepare themselves.

The federation has confirmed two main national tournaments to be hosted during the year.  The 8th PNG Karate Titles to be hosted in Port Moresby on 19–20 April, 2014, and the 25th National Karate Championships to be hosted on 5– 6 July, 2014.

Along with these two main events there will be several training camps and an instructors’ seminar held during the year.

President Carl Mari said the events leading up to the end of April 2014 are very crucial for athletes who would want to represent the country in the 2015 Pacific Games.

The train-on squad of 62 athletes will be culled to 40 athletes (including reserves) by 30th April 2014.  All the athletes who are in the squad have been put on notice to prepare for the day.

“What they do between now and the 30th April, 2014 is really important.

“We can’t stress that enough,” Mari said.
