CURRENT Hela Wigmen lock forward and Hela team two utlity player Michael Mapu played a leading hand for his side against Mendi Murumbu during the inaugural Anderson ‘Pawa’ Agiru Friendship Cup held at the Tente Oval in Mendi last weekend.
Mapu led the team to the cup finals but lost to Kewapi in the knock out stage and the Hela No.2 side had to settle for third place pocketing K3,000 for their efforts.
Bush Karinz proved too strong in the cup final beating Kewapi 10-0 in to claim Agiru Friendship Cup.
Karinz built their win on a strong all-round defensive display holding the Digicel Cup side’s second stringers scoreless.
The Karinz men bagged K10,000 in prize money and the cup while Kewapi took home K6,000.
Hela team two had the services of hard-nosed first grader Jerry Tapara and played strongly in spots but were not consistent enough to make the final.
The fifth and sixth places went to Murumbu from Mendi and Imbongu led by Muruks legend Joseph Omai.
Both received K1,000 consolation prizes.
