MISS Nambawan Trophy Ltd Sarah Karo is this year’s Miss South Pacific Papua New Guinea.
Karo, 24, from Hula and Gabagaba in Central, beat six other contestants to take the crown at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Port Moresby last Friday.
 Karo will represent PNG as its cultural ambassador at the Miss South Pacific pageant in Samoa next month.
The black-tie event was packed to capacity with sponsors, relatives and guests witnessing the crowning of PNG’s first cultural ambassador as Miss South Pacific PNG.
The contestants were judged in five categories: Bilum wear, sarong wear, talent, traditionally-inspired attire and stage interviews.
As Miss MSPP PNG 2011, she received K8,000, a lounge suite and a flat screen television and a trip to Samoa.
She won the competition for the best traditionally-inspired attire, Miss Tourism, Miss People’s Choice and best sarong wear.
The first runner-up was Miss Dekenai Construction Yalinu Poya. She received K5,000, a microwave oven and dining table set.
The second runner-up was Miss Frangipani Car Hires Navancca Leeanne Eyres, who received K3,000, a cook-top stove and a fold-up bed.
The third runner-up title was Miss Leahy Lewin Nutley Sullivan Augaia Jane Dalton, who received K1,000, a cutting set and a flower vase.
All four contestants received jewellery prizes from House of Gemini, gift vouchers from Trends, Theodist, Lotus Spa, Décor Galore, gift pack from City Pharmacy Ltd and a bouquet from Blooming Flowers.
The other three contestants received cash prizes of K1,000 and other consolation prizes.
The other special awards went to Miss Children by Choice Nicole Jeune, who took the title of Best Bilum Wear, Miss Leahy Lewin Nutley Sullivan Augaia Jane Dalton took the title of Miss Photogenic, Miss Frangipani car Hires Navancca Leeanne Eyres took the title of Best Talent and the Title of Miss Friendship was a tie between Miss Collingwood Bay Blanche Yogomin and Miss Dekenai Construction Yalinu Poya
