MADANG Governor Jim Kas has finally given the nod for 280 primary schools in the province to access the EQUITV programme.
Kas pledged K2 million for the programme during a closing ceremony of an EQUITV provincial training programme in Madan last month.
The EQUITV programme is an educational approach that utilises television to provide teaching despite geographical barriers, lack of teacher training and resource material in PNG.
In addition, EQUITV is fully supporting the Standards-Based Curriculum (SBC).
The Department of Education and Japan International Agency (JICA) are working to roll out the programme to all the provinces in PNG.
Acting assistant secretary for the e-Learning Division, Hatsie Mirou highlighted remote schools in the province.
Madang will see the installation of the 20 satellite sites in the remotest parts of its six districts soon after the training.
Kas said education was a priority in his province and that the programmes would reach all the schools through ICT.
The aim of EQUITV programme is to improve children’s learning.
The Madang provincial government is supporting the implementation of EQUITV in the province with K2 million from the provincial improvement programme fund.
The Madang education office organised the provincial trainers’ training on EQUITV programme which was supported by the e-Learning Division and JICA.
