AFTER six hours of competition Julian Kasu beat Stephen Pouruin the final of the PNG event of the FIFA12 PlayStation competition with a close score of 2-1.
The first 32 participants to arrive at the Vision City Mall on Sunday were divided into eight groups of four players, with only the top two players going through to the last 16.
There were many barriers in place to cater for the number of fans watching the event. Several were amazed to see such an event and others were supporting their family and friends competing.
One of the most intense and exciting moments of the tournament, was in the quarter-final between Joseph Ealedona and Victor Kowasam.
“Little Jojo”, the youngest competitor at eight years old with his entourage making up for his size.
“We are hoping that Joseph goes all the way through” his mother said.
Unfortunately “Little Jojo” was defeated by Kowasam after such a suspense penalty shoot-out.
For the final, organisers found the most constant and talented players. Julian Kasu’s team was Barcelona.
He led the last game of the day 1-0 but Stephan Pouru came back just before half time with his team of Manchester City.
The second half was very tight between the two players but Kasu who was more focused pulled through and took out the match winning 2-1.
The new PNG champion will join the OFC final in Auckland, New Zealand, at the end of March.
He will be competing against the winners of the other island countries such as Tahiti, the Solomon Island, New Caledonia and New Zealand.
