FORMER gold medalists Sandy Katusele and Livingstone Sikoli have joined the Lae Snax Tigers coaching staff for the Digicel Cup challenge this season.
Katusele was an athlete competing in long and high jump while Sikoli has been involved in weightlifting.
The inclusion of Katusele and Sikoli was a boost to the Tigers. They started training last week.
Tigers head coach Steve Malum said on Sunday the team comprised young talents and the inclusion of Katusele as a speed and endurance or tracking coach would be of great help.Sikoli, as the strength and conditioning coach will beef up the team.
“It is good to have the two elite sporting personnel – Sikoli to work on the strength and conditioning of the players and Katusele to monitor their speed and endurance,” Malum said.
“The players had their first official run last Monday and will continue till the season kicks of in April,” Malum said.
Tigers have named a new look side to competing this season.
“It is not just about the game of rugby league. We are looking for what in store for the players after rugby league is over.”
The players were selected from the Lae 9s rugby league challenge last year and the Ipatas Cup trials in Lae and in Wabag.
