Kaugere netball finals a success

FOR the first time in history, Kaugere suburb in Port Moresby has hosted a successful and peaceful netball final.
On Saturday, the men folk, media personnel and a full house PNGFM Power pack crew led by radio personalities Vavi Esi and Meinard William Oata, widely known as Lector from the breakfast show, were present to spice up the event as fans, parents and spectators braved the heat to support their teams in the first-ever netball grand final.
In the A grade, favourites Pacers outclassed KK Lavai 35-18 in a one-sided affair to claim the crown.
Pacers, boasting experienced and representative players outplayed their opponents in all departments.
PNG Pepes U21 representative Raylyn Andrew put on an outstanding performance in the in the shooting zone, at times pushing Lavai’s Magi Walter (GS) and Wendy Rocky (GA) to attempt long range shots.
Andrew’s teammate Marcia Muri, Cynthia Eka (GS) and Peggy Muri (GA) were rewarded for their top performance.
Their opponents could only manage 18 points while Pacers were sinking points at will to cruise to 35 goals to win.
Despite the loss, Lavai coach/player Vavine Eka said she was happy with her team’s efforts in making it to the grand final.
She said Pacers were the better side because they had experienced players on their side.
“Most of my players play touch footy but coming this far is a good experience for us and we will come strong next season,” Eka said.
In the B grade, the Soso Ugly proved too strong for their arch-rivals White Clouds beating them 30-24 to claim the title.
Association president Anne Omaro thanked major sponsor PNG Gardener Justin Tkatchenko for the backing in ensuring the successful season.
She  acknowledged the support of the supporters and fans for turning up to watch the grand final.
“We have witnessed a very peaceful and enjoyable grand final today.
“I would also like to thank you, especially all our men  and boys in the community who have come to help as well as support their respective blocks in the area.
“I would also like to thank my deputy for her tireless efforts in ensuring a peaceful grand final today,” Omaro said.
