Japheth Negi, Isaac Yanis, Samson Daniel and Jared Vaieke scored a try each to help Kaugere Bulldogs shut out Kone Eagles 22-0 in round five of the Moresby South Rugby League competition on Sunday.
Negi opened the scoring before Isaac crossed over for Kaugere’s second try for a 10-0 lead at halftime at Moresby South Stadium.
Second-half tries by Daniel and Vaieke extended the lead as Kaugere snuffed out Kone’s attack throughout the 70-minute contest.
The day prior, Gabutu Dragons continued their strong start to the season with a 6-0 victory against Six-Mile.
It was an error-riddled contest as both sides passed up scoring chances all match.
Dragon Joshua Aupa proved the difference with a 50m kick-chase that resulted in a brilliant individual second-half converted try.
Referee Vicky Moses’ decisions on a number of infringements were disputed by Crows players, causing the match to be delayed for about 15 minutes due to his marching off the field.
He returned to the field after being encouraged by his colleagues to complete the match.
It was the second A-grade match which the Papua New Guinea Kumuls legend had overseen due to the shortage of referees on the day.
Under coach Bagelo Solien, Dragons were disciplined as they refused to protest Moses’ decisions on a number of occasions.
Meanwhile, Joyce Bay Roosters beat Kipo Eastern Pride 10-4, Vabukori Mosquitoes drew 8-8 with Sab City Raiders, Vadavada United settled for a 6-6 Taurama Wolfpack stalemate, and Rabbitohs defeated Southern Sons 14-6.
