PAPUA New Guinea lightweight champion Raka Kauko Jr is continuing to train during the state of emergency while waiting for a rescheduled title fight against his Philippine opposite Roldan Aldea in Port Moresby.
Over the past six weeks, he has been in camp at Curtain Brothers, Motukea, under his coach Jamie Pang and trainer Kevin Baki.
“I’ve been under the care of Curtain Brothers,” Kauko said.
“They’ve been accommodating us and providing facilities like a gym, pool and a place to run outdoors.
“On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, I do morning road runs on my own and afternoon pad work with Jamie at his gym.
“Thursdays and Tuesdays are full training days. We haven’t really gone into intensive training. We are doing the basics so most of my team have been sent back home while Jamie, Kevin and I do closed training sessions.
“I’m hoping Oceania Fight Promotions, can give us more time to prepare once the Government lifts its restrictions on sporting venues and facilities.”
Kauko said he had yet to travel to Australia to continue training alongside mixed martial artist Adrian Pang following the travel restrictions last month.
Scheduled for April 25, the World Boxing Council-Asia Boxing Council lightweight title bout between Kauko and Aldea was suspended over the Covid-19 pandemic.
