Kaupa: Project to be completed by March

ABOUT 11 mini markets will be built in Moresby North East this year, says local MP John Kaupa.
Kaupa said this following a site visit to the 9-Mile market this week which was still under construction.
The construction of the 11 markets would be funded with K3 million while the 9-Mile market was being built at a cost of K5 million.
Kaupa said the 9-Mile market project was expected to be complete by March and commissioned for residents of 9-Mile and Bush Wara to use.
He said this impact project under the district’s economic sector programme would help those involved in the micro to small-and-medium enterprise (MSME) sector.
Last November, a MSME programme was launched to support women in the district.
A total of 280 associations in the district can now access about K3 million parked for MSME loans to start small businesses.
“We have collected 280 mothers incorporated business associations,” Kaupa said.
“They will receive MSME funding assistance this year, around 20,000 women from Moresby North East are involved in this programme.
“Moresby North East, under my leadership, has given priority helping entrepreneurs, especially for mothers and individuals, for economic self-reliance and poverty alleviation.
“The district development authority allocated K3 million for the MSMEs and successful individual applicants will receive.”

  • Our good member for Moresby North East, as an unfortunate tax payer, I assure you that 11 mini markets is a waste of tax payers’ money. We the people in your electorate already have Saraga, Boroko, and the major Gordens market to do our daily vending activities. This money is better off being used in maintaining and improving the current market infrastructures such as Gordans market which it has failed its primary objective of raising the bar for being the healthy safer market in the city. Women and children are being robbed and harrased outside the market bus stops, poultry farmers unhygienically selling their produce outside the market near the sewage/waste drainage where drug addicts and thugs usually harrass and rob them of their hard earned earnings. So please prioritize and improve existing infructures first.

  • North East squandered many public resource for services delivery. Nothing tangible for the key DSIP projects to measure.
They operate like a rural electorate.

Inadequate support in advise and leadership attributes.

  • Mr Kaupa, these millions of Kina you are about to waste on building these markets can be utilize in other Priority areas like roads, health centres and water supply within your electorate. The person who is providing advise to you needs to prioritizes more on “NEEDS” and not “WANTS”
