Kaven finds back of the net in tough clash to get first victory for Komara

A JORDAN Kaven goal helped Gulf Komara edged Central Dabaris 1-0 in the National Soccer League at Port Moresby’s Papua New Guinea Football Stadium on Saturday.
It was a goalless affair for most of the season opener as both sides failed to find the mark, but Komara coach David Aua’s men had the last laugh as Kaven bagged the winner against competition rookies Dabaris.
“The first game is always important,” Komara assistant coach Steven Mune told The National.
“So whatever chances you get, you need to put them away. We could have hammered them in the first half, but we started slow.
“We maintained our defence and that was important.
“We played well especially in the midfield with Kenneth Ara, Daniel Vetali and Willie Numa.
“We worked hard in defence throughout the match.
“They had us on the back foot a couple of times, but we maintained our defence.
“For our strikers, we need to be more controlled and lethal in attack.
“It’s important to dictate matches and I think we did that against the Dabaris.
“It was our first win but there’s still a lot of work to do at training over the next few days. Our second game is going to be another important one, so we have to focus on playing one team at a time.”
