DESPITE the death of Kurumbukari landowner chairman David Tigavu, the association recently met to discuss further expansion plans.
The association’s transport and logistics manager Chris Aizue told The National last week during a re-scheduled meeting due to Tigavu’s death that of the K10 million seed capital received
before Christmas, KBK Ltd was to have been allocated an open back four-wheel-drive utility by its board.
He said the K10 million was distributed to the four landowner companies which included KBK – K2.5 million, Wasmatau – K2 million, Maigari Ltd – K2 million, Basamuk Enterprise – K2 million and K1.5 million to Ricky Kumung for consultancy fees.
On the day of the interview at Coastwatchers Hotel, the LandCruiser was supposed to have been handed over to KBK Ltd but had to be postponed due to Tigavu’s death.
Tigavu was the key vocal figure in getting developer Ramu NiCo and concerned state departments in releasing the overdue funding after threats to halt commissioning of the nickel mine were issued.
The vehicle would be used as an escort vehicle for a 20-tonne twin steer cargo truck, yet to be acquired at a cost of K500,000.
Two would be purchased.
Aizue said the 20-tonne trucks will be used for bulk fuel supply after negotiations
with RamuNiCo under a general cargo contract agreement.
