POLICE have warned sports fans turning up drunk or found to be in possession of drugs at Pacific Games venues that they will be told to leave.

Chief Superintendent Peter Guinness, who is in charge of security at the Sir John Guise Stadium, has urged the people to behave as the regional sports event enters its final week.

Six people were arrested and charged with being under the influence of alcohol when they tried to enter the stadium last week.

“We will continue to search and arrest offenders in the remaining days,” he said.

Guiness said the Games venues must be safe and secure and people wanting to cause trouble would be dealt with by the police.

“We don’t want any problems during the Games,” he said.

“This is one of the biggest sporting events in the country and we must take pride and ownership of it.”

Sir Hubert Murray Stadium venue commander Chief Superintendent Donald Yamasombi said they were looking forward to the soccer finals this week.

Yamasombi said the men’s and women’s soccer finals were scheduled for Thursday and Friday and they were ready to provide security like what they did on Sunday night during the Olympic qualifier between Fiji and Vanuatu.

Venue commanders Chief Superintendent Vanua Vanuawaru at the Bisini Sports Complex and Chief Superintendent Winnie Henao at the Taurama Aquatic Centre were happy with the behaviour of spectators.
