Keeping head above water level

THE Highlands Luthe-ran International School (HLIS) located at the border of Wapenamanda and Wabag in Enga has survived despite tribal wars between neighbouring tribes for more than 10 years.

It is amazing to see this international boarding school in the heart of a fighting zone in Enga.

Many times, attempts have been made by surrounding tribes on the school but you just have to keep your head above the water by producing some of the country’s top students.

Houses have been burnt down, students wounded and lives lost around the vicinity of the school but the academic programmes remain the same.

As a parent, I would like to thank the administration, staff and the Ambuline tribe for the efforts put into keeping the HLIS out of the battle field.

I would also like to thank the provincial government and the Good News Lutheran church for maintaining their faith, loyalty and support for HLIS.
