SEVENTEEN boxes containing 414 pieces of Luci solar lights have been sold to villagers in eight provinces to help light their homes.
The lights were sold by women in Port Moresby to families without power in villages.
Coordinator of the Luci light project Marty Benny said the initiative by the PNG Tribal Foundation was aimed at making lives a bit more comfortable and easier for the rural population.
“We are targeting most of the Highlands provinces but we also aim to go throughout the four regions,” Benny said.
He said this was the second order of solar lights called Outdoor 2.0, everything had been sold out. Customer can now save money by not buying batteries.
Benny said they targeted customers in villages and rural areas who are without basic services.
One of their customers, Patrick Boi, from Lealea in Central, said his children could now study into the night and his family used solar lamps for many other activities.
“My money from selling fish and garden food will now be saved from buying batteries and kerosene for the lamps,” Boi said.
