KEROWAGI MP Bari Palma presented K100,000 to the office of Urbanisation on Friday to support the development of the Kerowagi urban centre.
He said factors influencing rural urban drift were associated with the town’s size, wages, employment and distance or ease of access.
The money was presented to executive director Urbanisation Max Kep in the presence of managing director for Housing Kennette Cooke, Daulo MP Pogio Ghate and Housing and Urbanisation Minister John Kaupa.
Palma said he was concerned about the large number of people moving to urban centres and he planned to develop the centre and improve economic performances.
“The district lies in the fertile valleys of the Waghi River and working closely with the office of urbanisation, there is possibility in improving the subsistence sector, raise rural incomes and reduce rural to urban migration,” he said.
