Key meets next month
The National, Wednesday February 25th, 2015
PORT Moresby will host two important Pacific Games-related meetings next month to discuss all aspects of preparations.
Games Organising Committee chief executive officer Peter Stewart said a meeting of technical delegates from all participating countries will visit the city on March 6-7 to discuss all matters to do with the 28 sports that will be run.
Information on rules, fields, results and other aspects of the sports will be on the agenda.
“All sports being run at the Games will have representatives meeting with technical delegates from all participating countries and they will be looking at matters such as the rules of the sports, the dimensions of the fields of play, the compilation of results and everything that goes into organising and running sports on game day,” Stewart said.
The second meeting will be at the end of the month and will involve each country’s chef de mission.
He said at that meeting matters specifically related to the athletes and officials would be discussed.
He said the meeting would look at accommodation, room allocations, accreditation, laundry, transport services and a range of other areas.
Stewart said security would be just one of the issues discussed.
He said members of the Pacific Games Council would be present but the meetings would not involve them directly.
“PGC president Vidhya Lakhan and executive Andrew Minogue may be present.”
Stewart said the meetings had been scheduled since last year.
