FOUR suspects are at large after allegedly killing a man for turning down their request to have sex with his sister-in-law in Angoram district, East Sepik, police Commander Supt Albert Beli says.
He said the suspects were friends of the deceased and had been drinking beer with him at Ambon village on Friday when the incident happened.
“While drinking they asked their friend (deceased) if he would allow them to have sex with his sister in-law which he refused and they stabbed him to death with a knife at about 11pm,” Supt Beli said.
Supt Beli said the body of the deceased was at Wewak General Hospital and the suspects were at large.
“The remoteness of the village is delaying the arrest because police cannot get there.
Supt Beli said he had instructed rural police commander Snr Insp James Baugen to prioritise the search for the suspects.
He condemned the killing and said the deceased had acted to protect his family and police would do everything in their power to bring the suspects to face justice.
Meanwhile, Supt Beli said a boy and a girl were allegedly killed in revenge for a suspected sorcery killing at Gavien rubber station in Angoram last week.
“The girl was allegedly killed after her family was accused of using sorcery to have a man killed in a car accident,” he said.
Three suspects were arrested over the death of the girl, however, relatives of the girl kidnapped and killed a boy in retaliation.
Supt Beli said his men were now looking for the boy’s killers.
He condemned the killings because they were based on sorcery accusations and innocent children had been murdered.

  • Alcohol abuse is becoming prevalent not only in Angoram but in many Districts in PNG. Tougher laws must be made to curb the rise in alcohol related abuse and harms to innocent people.

  • The Deceased stood up for the right thing. The community there must assist the police to arrest the culprits and given life sentences.

  • Alcohol is a drug that affects the frontal lobe of the brain, it affects our judgments, decisions, co’ordinations ,speech, and etc, thousands of lives had been wiped out on this earth because of this drug. The worst part of it is , demonic forces are behind a lot of drug abuse. Many of my relatives died because of drinking alcohol, they end up in accidents, fighting, moral issues, abusing children and wives ,socially disturbing our communities, long term illnesses and eventually death. Satan is behind the abusive drugs. Because John 10:10 says: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Satan’s aim is to steal, kill and destroy our lives but Jesus came into the world to give us life full of abundance.

  • The community needs to come together and assist the police in bringing these senseless AH’s to justice. And they need to be given the maximum penalty available, even death sentence. This needs to be done to send the message out loud and clear and act as a deterrence to everyone else.
