THE Kimbe men’s team is all set to put up a strong side for the forthcoming New Guinea Islands leg of Besta FA Cup.

The team from the Kimbe Soccer Association has been preparing for the tournament for the past month with trial matches to select its strongest side.

Head coach Steven Dube said he was looking at finalising his team  today.

He said he was impressed with the players’ performance during the past weeks.

The cream of the squad’s talent are in young striker Brendan Ben of Besta PNG United, defender Issac Torot of Hekari United and veteran Vincent Sili, with several untried but equally-talented players like Alisa Pau, John Mota and  Bati Luke, who will form a formidable unit in Manus.

The islands leg of the Besta Cup will be a competition between champions Manus and Kimbe, who are shaping up to be a team to beat this year.

The Kimbe-select side was picked from the provincial soccer league in the A-League competition.

Its main purpose was to give opportunities to talented and prospective players.

Kimbe is known for producing some of the country’s best players in the likes of Philip Raga, David Muta, Cyril Muta and Wira Wama.

The team is calling on business houses in Kimbe to support them for this tournament, which will be hosted by the Manus Soccer Association in Lorengau from Aug 25-28.
