The National, Monday 17th June 2013
STUDENTS from the Obura-Wonenara district in Eastern Highlands have been challenged to excel in their studies and return home to develop their district.
Obura-Wonenara MP Mehrra Minne Kipefa issued the challenge when he presented K38,000 recently as school fee subsidies for students studying at the University of Papua New Guinea Waigani and the Taurama campuses.
The cheque for K38,000 was agreed to and paid by the electorate’s joint district planning and budget prioritising committee to the Obura Students Association.
“Each of the 36 students in the association will get K1,000 as school fee subsidy,” Kipefa said.
“The remaining K2,000 is for the operation of the student association.”
He said K300,000 has been approved and allocated for students from the district who are attending tertiary institutions in the country.
Kipefa also challenged the students to excel in their studies and return home to develop their district.
