The new K2 million Kipo Market in East Boroko is set to be opened next week, according to Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko.
“The market official opening will be late next week,” he said yesterday.
Kipo Market was completed in November.
It was set to be opened on Dec 2 but was deferred.
Tkatchenko said vendors are already getting ready to get a space there.
Some of the vendors sitting outside the market said the recent weather had affected their sales.
They are eagerly looking forward to the new market.
“Rain water pushes rubbish onto the garden food that we sell,” Aee Reno, a market vendor at East Boroko, said.
“The strong wind damage our umbrellas and blow away some of the items we sell like plastics.
“Despite all these, we know we have a new market now, so we are not really worried and are waiting patiently.”
The market will cater for 300 vendors, with priority given to mothers from Kipo Settlement.
