KK Kingston yesterday announced their commitment to further sponsor PNG sprint queen Mae Koime in this year’s Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India.
Since taking Koime under their wings in 2007 through sponsorship and employment under their retail and promotions division, KK Kingston’s further support this year includes a K5,000 package for the athlete’s training and day-to-day expenses.
Koime has been out of the tracks for some time now since the Beijing Olympics to study business management.
This was something she said was necessary so as to fall back on to after her sprint career.
Koime’s run-up to the games begin this weekend in Australia’s Gold Coast followed by Thailand’s National Championships and finally the Oceania Aria Championships that will also take place in Australia.
KKK’s marketing manager Beatrice Geita said that company supported a lot of athletes and they were glad to come in to assist Koime who had made the country proud in many occasions.
Koime also revealed that she was nominated for an Olympic scholarship and that her participation in the Delhi games would also be under the scope of a committee that would determine her scholarship from
her performance.
She also stated that her form was not yet at 100% but the bonus for her was that during her build-up to the Commonwealth Games, she will be training at her base in Australia.
Koime thanked KKK for giving and their continuous backing stating that “KKK as we all know have always been on the forefront of manufacturing PNG made products and I, as a Papua New Guinean, along with their backing, will truly fly their colours and display to my best a true product of PNG.”
Koime will be taking part in the 100m and 200m sprints and also the 4×100 and 4×400 relays in the Delhi Games in October.
