Knife-wielding robbers raid supermarket, flee with cash

FIVE knife-wielding robbers raided a supermarket in Madang and fled with cash takings on Saturday.
Madang police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang said the robbers, each armed with kitchen knives, walked into Fourtine Supermarket and helped themselves to two cashiers.
“The robbers fled before the police arrived,”he said.
“Robberies are happening daily in the province.
“Last month, City Pharmacy, Hardware Haus in Modilon and some shops in town were hit.
“Bus passengers travelling along the North and South Coast roads are also robbed.
“Police are trying their best to attend to all these.
“We need support from the leaders and everyone in the province.
“I was pleased with what the people living along the Sepik Highway did last week.
“They helped to arrest a few armed men and handed them to Yangoru policemen.
“Such should be done by the people living along the highway in Madang.”
Acting Supt Rubiang said the parents of criminals should take responsibility to discipline their children.
He said police could not respond to everything on time, so individuals must take responsibility to work with the them.
