The Port Moresby North-East John Kaupa Cup ended its round nine matches over the weekend at the Unagi Oval at Gordon.
All the remaining matches in both A and B grade will be held this weekend before the competition heads into the finals the following weekend, according to competition coordinator Jeffery Bomai
Bomai said the women would start their knockout matches this weekend in their volleyball competition.
In the B grade division, the Emma Knights have now advanced to the top six after defeating Store-Line Cowboys 6-0.
The Knights will have their last game this weekend before they go for their finals.
Bomai said both the Bomana Kaupa Cup and the Gordon Kaupa Cup competitions were expecting the sponsor — North East MP John Kaupa together with NCD Governor Powes Parkop and Lands Minister Justin Tkachenko this weekend — to launch the finals for these competitions.
He said Tkachenko would accompany Kaupa because some of the teams were from his Moresby South electorate.
“We are expecting our three MPs here to promote our local grassroots competitions in the city that are keeping our youths busy with sports,” he said.
Bomai said both the Bomana and Gordon competitions would combine their final matches in a different and neutral venue for the safety of the players, referees and officials.
