THE role of a member of parliament is to design new laws, amend/repeal old laws and pass good laws.
Late Bernard Narokobi was a leader in this sense who had successfully designed, introduced and got Parliament to pass more laws (as private members bill) than any other MPs during his three terms as Wewak MP. Dame Carol Kidu was next and Boka Kondra.
Otherwise, all are just loud mouths good for nothing MPs … a waste of people’s mandate. They went in all for the wrong reasons.
Another role is to scrutinise and pass national budget and bring to light issues of national and international concerns.
Otherwise, a MP has no other role except these prescribed.
Unfortunately in PNG, our MPs are derailed, lose focus on their primary roles, and taking over public servants’ role.
