Koboni aiming to keep title defence alive against Cats
IT is a must-win situation for reigning premiers Concept Koboni when they meet the second Sun City Cats in the Port Moresby Esiloan AFL Premiership elimination finals at the Colts Oval tomorrow.
The Demons were poor in their minor semifinal against the Dockers last week.
They copped a 20-point bashing for their half-hearted performance in the last quarter after leading for most of the match.
Demons coaches Brandan Vaika, Jack Bola, Navu Maha and David Evertius know it is a crucial match.
The Demons boast the likes of PNG Mosquitoes’ Amua Pirika, Brendan Beno, Paul Philip, Alphonse Jambarufo, Douglas Lai Jr, Michael Macca, David Topeni and Stanis Susuve.
Macca, Topeni and Susuve may not be in the team for this match but the Demons have all the credentials to advance to the next stage.
The Cats, on the other hand, are a team made up of talented youngsters who have progressed through the junior development pathway programme.
Key player Kelly Kaugla may not be in the team but last week’s man-of-the-match winner Shane Jacob is expected to be on fire.
In the first qualifying final on Sunday, minor premiers Bismarck Maritime West Eagles look set to earn the first grand-final berth at the expense of the Dockers. Although the Dockers sailed through the minor semifinal with an impressive win over Koboni last week, they will find the Eagles a tough nut to crack.
The Eagles went through the season undefeated and they appear to have a stronger attack in the likes of Kila Rawali and Greg Ekari.
