Koboni eye first win in AFL premiership

Sports

CONCEPT Koboni will be in a desperate mood to register their first win of the season against Gordon Kokofas in round four of the Port Moresby Esi Loan Premiership at the Colts Oval tomorrow.
The reigning premiers are struggling to find form after three losses to the Cats, Dockers and Eagles.
The Demons are missing the services of Hapeo Bobogi in the engine room to coordinate and control the flow of the game.
Bobogi was the main stay in the Demons premiership victory last season and his teammates are wishing for his fast recovery from a collarbone dislocation in the pre-season final against West two months ago. Bobogi’s replacement — either Brendan Beno, Alphonse Jambarufo or Paul Philip — will need to be on his game tomorrow.
Ruckman Douglas Lai Jr is expected to play a dominant role in aerial contests but he will need support from his elder brothers Lai and Andrew to give him a clear passage to the goal mouth.
Captain David Topeni, Amua Pirika, Chrijen Amona, Herald Kali, Haksy Ehava and Michael Maka will need to lift their game in the remaining matches to make an impact in their title defence.
The Kokofas are the silent achievers with a good crop of talented youngsters from Gordon Secondary School and the surrounding areas.
If they do take the field, old hands Bena Michael, David and Sony Yogomin will be leading them against seasoned footballers.
In the other match tomorrow, Gereka Bombers — boosted by their new sets of uniforms — should give a tough challenge to the Dockers.
On Sunday, Maritime West Eagles should soar over Gerehu Magpies while Cats should collect an easy win over North Waigani Royals Tigers. In the women’s matches, Lamana Dockers should ease to a win against North Waigani Royals Tigers while Kokofas should run rings around Concept Koboni.
