KOBONI finally got their Port Moresby AFL season on the track with a polished 11-point win over Defence at Amini Park on Saturday.
The 2009 premiers, after an unlikely start to the season with two humiliating losses got their acts together and turned out in full force to prevail over their traditional rivals 6.6 (42)  to 4.7 (31).
The victory for the Demons also served as a rousing welcome for two of their 2009 premiership players Colin Wiltshire and Mathew Ray and former champion rover and ex-Mosquito captain Navu Maha back from Rabaul after three seasons.
The three, playing their first game of the season, were a handful for their opponents to contain.
They were assisted by Rex Leka, David Evertius and Dominic Livuana to lead the new breed of Koboni youngsters to a taste of sweet victory.
The Demons opened up their account with the wind in the first quarter kicking 1.1 (7) to 0.3 (3) to lead by four points at the first break.
They continued their good form booting two straight goals against the wind to increase their half-time lead to seven points.
The “soldiers” had the use of the wind in the second quarter but many of their forward moves countered stiff opposition from the Demon’s defence put up by Ray, Wiltshire and Jerry Logi.
The Demons added two more goals and two behinds to increase their third quarter score to 5.3 (33) to 2.6 (18) while restricting the barracks men to a lone goal.
In the other games University Tigers boosted their percentage with a 9.13 (67) to 1.2 (8) thrashing of Boroko and Bomana Powers pipped KDC Dockers 4.6 (30) to 2.1 (13).
After found rounds, points ladder has Kokofas on 14 points followed by Uni Tigers 12, Bomana 12, Dockers six, Defence six, Koboni six, Boroko two.
