KOBONI’S class and experience was too much for  the Gerehu Magpies in the Port Moresby AFL  over the weekend with the demons 17.13 (121) thrashing the Magpies 4.1 (25).

Koboni could have put more goals on with better execution with forward Amua Pirika having a field day in front of the Magpies posts.

Pirika’s radar was a little off with the national representative kicking more behinds than goals during first quarter on Saturday but once he found his rhythm in the second half of the match things started to happen.

Koboni back, Cryjen Amona played a blistering role in cutting off any Magpies advances despite a chilly afternoon at the Amini Park.

Amona carted the ball out of his danger line and into safety with strong runs down the fringes to offload before running back to his position.

Amona’s deeds paid off well with Koboni skipper Lailai Ila taking the lead to set up Brendan Beno and Pirika who shot goals at will.

The match started on the wrong foot with Koboni four goals up to Magpies two in the first quarter.

By the second quarter, Magpies’ Emmanuel Taviri inspired his team to a strong comeback limiting Koboni to two goals.

Senen Lavai, Magpies forward played a big role in talking crucial marks but with pressure on him and Taviri both men dismantled and opened the floodgates to a merciless Koboni faction.

By the third quarter, Koboni took total control of the game and booked the Magpies end of the yard for the last two quarters, nailing six goals with Magpies managing a behind.

Ila, Beno and Allan Brown made inroads at will, destroying any comeback. The Magpies never looked like contenders.

Ila made sure his team was ahead with strong runs that provided Pirika many opportunities, some of which he missed but nailed a brilliant 50-metre shot and taking marks and leadouts.

Beno and Pirika combined well and were unstoppable as the Koboni rained in the goals.
