KOKODA Warriors midfielder Wayne Rooker inspired his team to beat Saints 2-1 in the premier match at Bisini Park on Sunday.
The match was one of the five premier football matches played on the day.
Rooker, with striker Dion Bartogh, are two players that played important roles in molding the Warriors to become a competitive outfit in the premier division of the Port Moresby soccer competition.
The Warriors are one of the five teams from Koiari that have entered the city competition.
The others are Manena, Kumusi, Rubuana and Nakemo United.
Koiaris, located in the rugby league stronghold in the Sogeri plateau and Port Moresby hinterland, are making inroads into the NCD soccer scene.
In the other matches, Babaka edged the Adam Lema-coached Guria 1-0, YMC proved too strong for Bavaroko 2-0, Mungkas continued their lead on the points ladder defeating Muiah Brothers 2-1 and Hard Rock bounced back from their Saturday 1-0 loss to POMSOE defeating Francis Posi’s Kurti-Andra 1-0.
The results of other premier matches on Saturday: Mungkas and Gordon Mates collected two points each for a 1-1 draw, Yamaros had the better of Kurti Andra winning 2-0, Momase came back from a 1-0 deficit to shoot down Defence 3-1 and University beat Cosmos 1-0.
In the women’s premier division: Mungkas maintained their top position on the points ladder when they defeated Yamaros 1-0, University crushed Lamana 3-0, Murat defeated Saints 2-1, Nakemo United edged Sea Eagles 1-0, Guria beat Murik United 1-0 and Babaka beat Telikom 2-1.
Meanwhile, association’s technical director Russel Tsuga and acting secretary John Mogi have announced that a selection panel will be picking a representative side to participate in the Besta FA Cup later this year.
Both men appealed to  clubs to submit names of their four top players while the selection panel would go ahead to chose their own team for a possibles and probables trial  before a final team is announced later this month.
Tsuga said a separate selection committee was also looking at picking a women’s team for the tournament to be hosted by Lae.
