THE Butuwin health centre in Kokopo has been given K300,000 to upgrade equipment and improve its services to the people of East New Britain.

Governor Ereman ToBaining Jr visited the health facility and gave a motorbike to the tuberculosis clinic and two grass-cutters.

The K300,000, which comes from the Kokopo district services improvement programme will be used to improve the laboratory and X-ray facility.

Sister in-charge Connie Wuki said they were important equipment to the health centre.

She told of how the health centre had struggled with the little government support it received to cater for a number of patients.

She said ToBaining’s help had boosted staff morale. Wuki said the motorbike would be used to visit TB patients in villages and communities.

ToBaining also promised to buy another ambulance for the health centre, which already had one.

The centre serves not only Kokopo district but the whole province.
