PEOPLE in East New Britain have recently raised their concerns regarding Kokopo town’s four-lane road.
Many in the province have described it as a “death trap.”
They said it was important for provincial authorities to consider preventative measures by constructing infrastructures that would prevent unnecessary accidents, especially when the province was experiencing a great influx of people.
Many said the section of the road from PNG Motors roundabout to Vunapope roundabout was a “death trap” as people flooded the roads everyday crossing to either sides of the road and causing inconveniences with traffic and increases the
risk of someone getting run over.
The residents called on the provincial government and its administration including the Kokopo district to ensure that the promised overhead bridge
is constructed as soon as possible.
The authorities were called on to put up an overhead bridge quickly and also
consider an underground tunnel or pedestrian traffic lights
at certain spots in Kokopo where there is heavy traffic involved.
Authorities were also urged should also consider a barricade in the middle to separate the four-lane strip to restrict people to use only the safe crossing infrastructures in place.
