KOKOPO City Rugby League is set to kick off its pre-season at the end of this month with four clubs — Muruks, Storm, Panthers and Brothers — confirming their participation this year.
League president Wesley Waninara told The National that the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League had given approval for the 2021 season.
He said clubs that had not attended four consecutive meetings this year would be excluded from taking part this season due to non-attendance as per the league’s constitution. Waninara said the season draw would be made available once all club affiliation and players’ fees were paid.
He said that it would be a waste of time to hold meetings with no club delegates in attendance.
Waninara said the upcoming season would be a challenge, given the Covid-19 measures in place.
“But we have made strategies available to practise the ‘new normal’ and combat the virus throughout the season,” Waninara said.
He thanked the sponsors of each club for attending the last meeting.
