Kokopo wary of players’ age at tourney

KOKOPO have cried foul over the use of over-aged players during the 2010 Coca-Cola U20 soccer challenge in Madang over the weekend.
Coach Spencer Manhi and his sponsor, John Simon, were concerned that several teams, including hosts, Madang, had fielded over-aged players during the tournament.
Manhi and Simon alleged that the championship was not played in the true spirit of fair play as required under FIFA.
“If we have to be successful, then we must have junior competitions like the U12, U16, U18, U20 and U23 as the men’s junior team,” they said.
They challenged the PNG Football Association that it was inexcusable for the association to secure sponsorships when they were tasked to do so to run these tournaments stipulated on the annual soccer calendar.
