THE Nipa-Kutubu district account only has K13,000 left in it, local MP Jeffery Komal told students from the electorate at the University of Papua New Guinea yesterday.
Komal’s visit also saw him present a personal cheque for K2,000 to help the students prepare for their annual cultural show this year.
He wanted to start on a new note as there were not enough funds in the district account.
The first thing the new MP wanted to do was to establish a full investigation and audit into the use of district funds.
This was to make sure the people knew what past governments had done with public funds.
He said his action was not a political witch-hunt but a proper and transparent action as required under the Public Management Act.
“I want to start on a clean note and serve the people as they have voted me for a change.”
Komal said more than K20 million had gone to the district and his aim was to make sure the money had been used as required and that transparency and accountability was maintained.
“I wants the Task Force Sweep to investigate the use of the funds and a full audit be carried out for transparency and accountability.”
Komal said he wanted an audit on project funds had been used to determine who the beneficiaries had been for the past two decades.
