GULF Komara continued their perfect start to the season with a 5-2 win over Tavur in round five of the National Soccer League at Papua New Guinea Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
The David Aua-coached side scored three goals in the first half while rookies Tavur trailed with one of their own.
Tavur scored their second goal after the halftime but Komara netted two more goals and earned another three points to retain their second place on the Southern Conference ladder.
Komara assistant coach Steven Mune said it was important for them to keep pace with ladder leaders Hekari United.
“Our defence is very good and we are satisfied with it,” he said.
“With turnovers, we just kept the attack going.
“We had a few more chances to score but we scored only five goals which was good enough.
“Everyone played well, it was a team effort so we’re taking it one game at a time.
“We are very mindful of the little mistakes in the backline and midfield.
“We keep telling players that it’s important to score goals but not only that, we must have good defence because that’s where the pressure is. We worked on our strength and it was important that we maintained it.
“We believe it’s going to be a good season for us.” Meanwhile, Tavur coach Hans Fred said despite the loss, he was happy with his side’s performance.
