HEKARI United coach Erickson Komeng says he is looking forward to resuming preparations for the Women’s National Soccer League semifinals.
Training and the semifinals had been shelved last month due to the Covid-19 restrictions under the national isolation strategy. Last week, the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation (PNGSF) granted permission for all four semifinalists to resume training at its venues.
But the franchises are now awaiting directives from the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) to resume training.
“It will be good for the four finalist to get back to the pitch and train,” Komeng told The National yesterday.
“Women’s football is as important as men football so whatever PNGFA comes up with is good for the sport.
“We just have to follow Covid-19 protocols for everyone’s safety.
“I’m sure the other three clubs are also ready to resume training and are looking forward to the finals.”
Komeng said with the restriction on sporting activities, his side has been off the pitch for over a month and they would now have to regain their fitness.
“My job now is to get their fitness levels back up and work on the things that need improvement,” he said.
“The players know how tough it is to get back on the field, but I know they have been looking forward to that and they all will be good to resume training.”
Meantime, PNGFA is expected to release a statement to update the semifinalists.
