COACH Erickson Komeng says his Hekari United are two weeks into their pre-season training ahead of the new men’s National Soccer League (NSL) season.
One of 10 teams from last season, Hekari will be expressing their interest to the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) for the upcoming season.
Komeng told The National yesterday that he was focused on preparing his team mentally and physically.
“Everything looks good so far after two weeks of preparation,” he said.
“I’m trying to get the players’ fitness back up to standard.
“We’re also working on the basics.
“Pre-seasons are always hard, but it’s important that we keep our players mentally and physically ready.”
Komeng said they had about 20 players who were training under the nationwide Covid-19 measures.
“These players are from last season,” he said.
“Other players may join us, but that depends on the club management.”
Meanwhile, with PNGFA looking to have the national men’s train-on-squad resume training, Komeng said it would be a challenge for his players who were on national duties.
“It’s going to be hard for the players to adjust,” he said.
“It’s the train-on-squad so they have to work hard and improve.”
Komeng is overseeing the Port Moresby-based players who are in the train-on-squad.
