Kondra tribunal hears more evidence
The National, Tuesday February 24th, 2015
THE Leadership Tribunal of Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Boka Kondra continued yesterday with North Fly district treasurer Carl Kano giving evidence for the Ombudsman Commission.
Kano told the tribunal that the district treasury office only raised cheque payments according to invoices and claims and by proper procurement processes. He denied allegations that he conspired with others to make unauthorised payments out from the district treasury office.
Counsel assisting the tribunal and Public Prosecutor Pondros Kaluwin asked Kano about many cheque payments that were paid out by the district treasury office for over an hour.
Kano said he had no grudges against Kondra. Kondra’s lawyer Ian Molloy QC asked Kano if he was honest in his evidence to which Kano replied “yes”.
Molloy asked Kano if he knew the cheque payments were drawn from the correct fund.
Kano said there was a system they had that showed which fund the payments were drawn from. The tribunal members are Justice Salatiel Lenalia, who is presiding as the chairman, and senior magistrates Ignatious Kurei and Rosie Johnson.
Kaluwin requested Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia to set up a tribunal to determine allegations of “misconduct in office” levelled against Kondra in November last year.
