Kool gives network green light

THE Chimbu provincial government has recognised the Provincial Council of Women’s network and taken on board two women each in the 20 local level governments, one in the provincial assembly and in the joint district planning and budget priority committee.
Governor Noah Kool has given the green light for women to be nominated by the women’s council.
Council president, Martha Kaiun, commended Kool for recognising the network and allowing women an opportunity to serve in decision-making bodies.
Kaiun said last Friday in Kundiawa in the past, former MPs appointed women of their choice as representatives.
She said that undermined the presence of the council, a recognised women’s body in the province and country.
Kaiun said the council would nominate three women and the provincial executive council would appoint a woman to the assembly.
She said the law was clear but successive governments never followed it.
She said women leaders should take part actively and make sound decisions for the betterment of women.
“I want to thank Kool and the six MPs in the province for their understanding to take on board women leaders,” she said.
